I have three full-time hygienists here at Bonita Family Dental and they’re very good. They love their job and they’re here to keep your gums healthy for your lifetime. If you show up regularly, all it needs is a regular cleaning, a routine cleaning and maintenance. Now, if you have a genetic risk for periodontitis, also poor home care or neglect or procrastination has led to deterioration in your gum health. Now, the hygienist will do a deep cleaning and have you come in every three to four months for closer monitoring and supervision. And we can help stabilize this. For those patients who do not respond sufficiently well or need further care, then we send them over to the periodontist to look at areas that have deep bone loss and could use some bone grafting to help salvage these borderline teeth. To avoid extracting and going into implants and dentures, we have you see the periodontist who comes to our practice. Patients have a good outcome and we help stabilize and maintain their own teeth. I myself use lasers and so do my hygienists to clean and sterilize the gum pockets. We also counsel you on nutrition and home care and help support you because this is a chronic thing and it needs your participation at home with your home care and hygiene, followed by regular professional cleaning with the hygienist and maintenance. Beyond that, the periodontist, you know, supporting with periodontal surgery techniques and higher level of like specialized attention. And so we can provide that for you here in this office.
Get a Beautiful Grin With Our Cosmetic Gum Treatment
While the health of your teeth is certainly a top priority, the appearance and condition of your gums play a crucial role in the overall look and function of your smile. Cosmetic gum procedures can address concerns like uneven gumlines and excessive gum tissue.
At our practice, you’ll find three main types of cosmetic gum surgery to meet your needs:
- Gum Grafting – This treatment involves taking tissue from another area of your mouth and carefully transplanting it to areas with receding or thin gumlines. A gum graft can improve the appearance of your smile while strengthening your gums and protecting you from tooth loss.
- Gum Reshaping – For patients with a gummy smile, laser gum contouring gently reshapes the gum tissue to create an even, pleasing balance between your teeth and gums. This procedure can also correct an uneven gumline.
- Crown Lengthening – Your dentist uses a laser to remove excess gum tissue and let more of the crown (white part) of your tooth show. It can help make short teeth appear longer and more appealing. It will also prepare a tooth for other procedures such as a crown or veneer.
- Osseous/Gum Surgery – Through osseous surgery, the periodontist treats moderate to severe periodontitis by helping reduce the depth of gum pockets and eliminating bacterial build up to prevent further infection.
To ensure your comfort, our team uses advanced techniques and leading-edge technology like digital X-rays. You’ll feel relaxed with plush pillows, cozy blankets, and a soothing recovery area. Plus, you can take advantage of sedation options if you’d like.
